Unlacquered poplar wood

The Tulip carrier is made of poplar multiplex. The wood is unlacquered, which gives the carrier a light appearance. This makes the carrier accentuate the color of a shroud. Poplar wood is very lightweight, making this material ideal for a carrier.

Usage

The cutouts in the sides of the wood allow for the Tulip carrier to be carried by six to eight people. The slanted edges make the carrier easy to handle. We recommend the use of a shroud strap to tie the shroud to the carrier.

The origin of the Tulip carrier

The Tulip carrier was desiged by Monique Rang, Wikkelgoed’s founder, and her son Robbe. They had the desire to create a shape that didn’t exist yet, which led to the development of a carrier with six corners, an open version of the original coffin.

Cremation input board

Some crematoriums require a carrier to have a flat bottom plate and an upright edge. In such cases, a cremation input board must be used. Always discuss the situation with the crematorium to prevent misunderstandings.

Pillow

Our ecru colored pillow can be used as a soft headrest. The small pillow is rectangular, to fit onto the carrier or inside the shroud. It is made of  biological cotton and straw.

Frequently Asked Questions

We hope this helps you find the information you need.

Questions

Is it possible to cremate without the use of a coffin?

In the Netherlands cremation without a coffin is legally allowed. The only requirement is that a shroud and a carrier are used. There might, however, be crematoriums that have less experience in such cremations, so always be sure to discuss this with your funeral director.

Can a carrier be bought now, and be stored for later?

Even though they take up a lot of space, it is possible to store a carrier for a long time. We would advice you to store the carrier in a cotton bag to prevent it from becoming gray from dust.

What is the best way to transport a carrier in a hearse?

When transporting a body on a carrier in a car, it is important to carefully tie the body to the carrier. The carrier must be stable so that it won't move too much with bumps or turns on the road.
